Suicide Awareness
People For Suicide Awareness
Stettler & District
The People For Suicide Awareness Committee is a group of concerned professionals and community citizens.
Their goal is to let our communities know that suicide does not need to happen. There are intervention techniques and community resources available.
Bereavement Support
The Bereavement Support Program was developed in 1991 to respond to an identified community need.
Their goals are:
- To assist individuals who have experienced loss through death;
- To understand the grief process;
- To share the experience with others; and,
- To receive and give mutual support in a group setting.
Coats for Kids
![]() |
"Coats for Kids" (October - March) is a program offered through FCSS providing donated winter wear so any child or youth can come in and choose a warm winter coat or jacket. There is also a small selection of mitts, hats, and scarves available. Clean, gently worn donated coats can be dropped off at the FCSS office located at 4720 - 50 Street, Stettler, Alberta. |
For more information please call (403) 742-2337.
Superfluity Thrift Shop
This is a community outlet for the sale of used clothing and miscellaneous small articles that are no longer of use to one person, but can meet a need for another. Our purpose is to help people stretch their dollars while raising money to support community projects.
For more information please call (403) 742-0697.
Disaster Services
Disaster Social Services (DSS) is a planned emergency response program intended to meet the immediate and long term survival and psychological needs of individuals impacted by an emergency or disaster.
In the early stages of an emergency or disaster, there may be many people displaced from their place of residence for short or extended periods of time.
To meet their immediate needs, Stettler FCSS is responsible for establishing a Reception Centre at the William E. Hay Composite High School which will provide the following services:
- Registration and Inquiry Service - reuniting family, inquiries about missing persons, and the numbers and whereabouts of evacuees;
- Emergency Clothing Service - supplying clothing until regular sources of supply are available;
- Emergency Food Service - nourishment for evacuees, emergency workers, and disaster volunteers;
- Emergency Lodging Service - safe, immediate, temporary lodging; and,
- Personal Services - both short term care and long term support.
For more information please call (403) 742-2337.

Christmas Hamper
This program provides the less fortunate living in our service area with a hamper containing Christmas gifts and enough food to prepare a meal during the holiday season.
Applications for hampers are received at Stettler & District Family & Community Support Services through self-referral and cannot be referred from outside agencies due to FOIP regulations. Suggestions for gifts may also be given, however it is not always possible to accommodate everyone.
Donations of new toys are received through churches, various community organizations, and drop boxes located in stores throughout the community. Funding comes from the community at large through individual donations and service clubs. The society is a registered charity with Revenue Canada therefore tax receipts can be issued.
Those persons/families receiving hampers are called ahead to ensure they will be home when the volunteer makes the delivery. This is crucial in order to ensure our volunteers don't have to make multiple return visits.
